The objective of this class is to provide Mining Engineers with a basic understanding of surveying, surveying instruments, and applications to the mining industry. This class does not provide training in property surveys, development of control grids, construction surveying, highway surveying, or professional surveying. Students will gain a hands on familiarity with a variety of surveying instruments and their operation and a working knowledge of the triangulation, leveling, and traverse techniques commonly used in surveying. Special treatment will cover traverses and direction control in underground settings. This course also fulfills a requirement by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for accredited Mining Engineering programs.
